List of Kinks: The A to Z Guide to 235 Kinks, Fetishes and Turn-Ons

Featured image credit: Victoria Lane

If you have ever wondered what a kink actually is, what that unfamiliar word on a forum means, or whether the thing you secretly think about has a name, you are in the right place. This is a complete A to Z list of 235 kinks, fetishes, practices, and fantasy tropes, each with a plain-English explanation of what it is, what is involved, and what to know before you try it. Every entry is numbered, grouped into categories, and linked to the full guides on this site.

Everything here is written for adults, about activities between consenting adults. Nothing on this page is meant to push you toward anything. It is a map, and you decide where you want to go.

Kink, fetish, fantasy, trope: what is the difference?

People use these words loosely, so here is how this guide uses them.

A kink is any sexual interest or practice outside what most people think of as conventional. Spanking, blindfolds, roleplay, and handcuffs all count. A kink is usually something you add to sex, and you can enjoy it or leave it.

A fetish is a stronger pull toward a specific object, material, or body part, such as latex, feet, or high heels. For some people a fetish is a bonus. For others it is close to a requirement for arousal. If you want to read more about the gap between the two, the kinkster and vanilla entries are a good place to start.

A fantasy is something you enjoy imagining, whether or not you ever want to do it. Plenty of people love a scenario in their head that they would never want in real life, and that is completely fine.

A trope is a story pattern, such as enemies to lovers or the forbidden affair, that shows up in erotic fiction and sometimes gets acted out in roleplay. We have included the most popular ones because they are often how people first discover what they like.

Having a kink is common and normal. Interest in unusual things does not make you broken, and you do not need to justify it. What matters is that everyone involved is an adult, informed, and enthusiastic.

Before you try anything: the ground rules

Almost every entry below comes with a safety note, but these basics apply to all of them.

  1. Consent comes first, every time. Everyone involved must be an adult, must understand what is happening, and must be able to say no or stop at any moment. Our guide to consent culture covers the mindset.
  2. Talk before you play. A short conversation about wants, limits, health, and what to do if something goes wrong is called scene negotiation. Sort out your hard and soft limits in advance.
  3. Agree on a way to stop. A safeword (or a simple signal if someone cannot speak) works at any time and is never argued with. Many people use red for stop and yellow for slow down.
  4. Stay sober. Alcohol and drugs blur consent and judgment. Skip them when trying something new.
  5. Start small. Try the gentle version first. You can always go further next time, but you cannot undo a bad experience.
  6. Learn the skill. Rope, impact, and anything that breaks skin or restricts breathing are skills. Take a class, read a good guide, or learn from an experienced person.
  7. Practice safer sex. Use protection, clean toys properly, and never share anything that touches blood.
  8. Look after each other afterward. Aftercare means checking in, cuddling, and having water and a blanket ready. Intense play can leave people emotional or shaky, and care afterward makes a real difference.

The kink community talks about two frameworks. SSC stands for safe, sane, and consensual. RACK stands for risk-aware consensual kink, and recognizes that some activities cannot be made completely safe, only understood. Both put consent at the center.

A Kinks

11 entries under A. Back to the index

1. ABDL

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: ABDL stands for Adult Baby / Diaper Lover. It covers adults who enjoy babyish clothing, nursery settings, or diapers, either as comfort, as play, as erotic charge, or all three. Some people are into the diaper itself, some into the "baby" headspace, and plenty into both.

What is involved: Typical elements are diapers, onesies, pacifiers, bottles, cribs, and a partner or caregiver who looks after the "baby" for the length of the scene. For many people it is as much about being cared for and letting go of adult responsibility as it is about anything sexual. See Adult Baby for the identity side and Little Space for the mental state.

Know before you try it: Everyone involved is an adult, and the whole thing is a consensual roleplay between adults. Hygiene matters, since prolonged diaper wear can cause skin irritation and infection, so change often and use barrier cream.

Full glossary entry: ABDL

2. Age-Gap Attraction

Category: Relationship Structures

What it is: Attraction between adults with a large age difference, such as a younger partner with an older one, or the reverse. It's a common preference and often has nothing to do with kink.

What is involved: Some couples lean into it with dynamics like the daddy dynamic or mommy dynamic, or the sugar baby dynamic. Others just enjoy the life experience gap.

Know before you try it: Both people must be adults and equal in consent. Be wary of any imbalance of power.

Related glossary entry: Daddy Dynamic

3. Age Play

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: Age play is consensual roleplay between adults where one or both people act out a different age than their real one. The "age" is a character and a headspace, not a literal claim, and it can run from gentle and cuddly to sexual and strict.

What is involved: The most common versions are a younger-feeling "little" with a nurturing "caregiver" (see CGL, DDLG, and MDLB), or a strict, older-feeling authority figure with a playful partner, again between grown adults. Props, nicknames, bedtime routines, and rules are all part of the toolkit. Some people also practice age regression as a stress-relief or self-care state rather than a sexual one.

Why people like it: For many people it is about comfort and care rather than anything sexual. Slipping out of adult responsibilities for an hour, and being looked after, can be deeply relaxing.

Know before you try it: Adults only, always. Agree on what is on the table, what is not, and how to step out of the roles, and keep it out of any space that involves actual children.

Full glossary entry: Age Play

4. Age Regression

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: Age regression is the experience of mentally slipping into a younger, more carefree state. Unlike age play, which is a performance, regression is often something that just happens, or that someone chooses to do for comfort.

What is involved: A regressing adult might color, watch cartoons, hug a plush toy, or speak in a softer voice. Some do it solo, some with a partner who acts as caregiver. It overlaps with little space, but it is not always erotic at all.

Know before you try it: Because it can be tied to stress and emotional needs, check in often. If regression feels out of control or tied to distress, a kink-aware therapist is a good person to talk to.

Full glossary entry: Age Regression

5. Alpha and Beta Dynamic

Category: Tropes & Fantasy Themes

What it is: A popular trope in romance and erotic fiction that sorts characters into dominant "alphas" and gentler "betas" or "omegas." It maps onto dom/sub dynamic but with a more animal, instinctive flavor.

What is involved: Possessive, protective alpha characters dominate stories, while real couples use the language as shorthand for the dynamic they enjoy.

Know before you try it: Be careful with the idea that anyone is naturally an alpha. It is a game, not a hierarchy of people.

Related glossary entry: Dominant/Submissive Dynamic

6. Alternative Aesthetic Fetish (Goth, Punk, Emo)

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Attraction to subculture style: black lipstick, fishnets, chains, dyed hair, platform boots, and the sense of a person who does not follow the crowd. Goth is the most popular of these, closely followed by punk, emo, and e-girl looks.

What is involved: Fans enjoy the clothes, the make-up, and the attitude. Many of the fashion pieces overlap with other entries, such as boot fetish, choker fetish, fishnet fetish, and piercing fetish. It is as much about a vibe as a body part.

Know before you try it: A style is not a personality. Treat people as individuals, not as a type.

7. Amazon Fetish

Category: Body Part Fetish

What it is: A fascination with tall, strong, physically powerful women, often with an emphasis on being overpowered, carried, lifted, or dominated by one. It sits at the crossroads of size kink, femdom, and wrestling fetish.

What is involved: Fantasies range from simply admiring height and muscle, to being lifted or pinned in play fights, to full submission to a towering partner. Photos and videos of tall women in athletic or warrior-style outfits are a staple. Height difference, high heels, and strength displays are the main ingredients.

Know before you try it: Lifting and wrestling play is physical activity, so warm up, keep it off hard floors, and agree on a tap-out signal before anyone gets pinned.

8. Anal Play

Category: Body Part Fetish

What it is: Sexual play involving the anus, from external touch and massage through toys and, for some, penetration. It is one of the most common "I'd like to try it" fantasies across all genders.

What is involved: Go slow, use plenty of water-based or silicone-compatible lubricant, and start small. Toys for the area must have a flared base so they cannot slip inside. Partners who want to reverse roles can explore pegging, where a woman uses a strap-on on a partner.

Why people like it: It is a sensitive area with a lot of nerve endings, and many people find it surprisingly pleasurable once they relax. It also feels like a "private" experience that couples share.

Know before you try it: Never switch from anal to vaginal contact without washing or changing protection, since bacteria transfer easily. Pain is a sign to stop, not push through.

Related glossary entry: Pegging

9. Apron Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: A liking for aprons, usually in a domestic or kitchen setting. It often comes bundled with 1950s housewife imagery, maid fetish play, or the appeal of someone who looks put-together and doing something wholesome right before things turn playful.

What is involved: The apron can be the star, as in "wearing only an apron," or one detail in a bigger scene with cooking, cleaning, or serving. Cotton, frilly, vintage, and leather versions all have fans.

Know before you try it: Cooking in a bare-skin apron is a fantasy best kept away from hot oil and open flames.

Full glossary entry: Apron Fetish

10. Armpit Fetish

Category: Body Part Fetish

What it is: An erotic focus on the underarm, including the look, the smell, and the feel of it. Sometimes called maschalagnia, it can be tied to natural scent and to the intimacy of a body part that is usually covered.

What is involved: Enjoyment can mean looking, kissing, licking, or inhaling the scent, with or without shaving depending on taste. Pairing it with body worship is common.

Know before you try it: Hygiene preferences vary hugely. Talk about whether freshly washed or natural is the preference, and stick to what both people like.

Full glossary entry: Armpit Fetish

11. Auralism

Category: Language & Sound

What it is: Being turned on by sound, whether that is a voice, breathing, moaning, the slap of skin, or a whispered instruction. It is the "audio" kink, and it explains why people love erotic audio and ASMR-style voice work.

What is involved: Voice notes, audio stories, dirty talk, and ambient sound during sex are all fair game. Blindfolds or earbuds can boost the effect by removing other senses. If you love being talked to, praise kink and degradation kink often go hand in hand with auralism.

Know before you try it: Keep volume reasonable when using headphones, and check walls and neighbors before turning anything up.

B Kinks

21 entries under B. Back to the index

12. Ballbusting

Category: Pain & Sensation

What it is: Consensual play that involves striking, squeezing, or kicking the testicles. It is most often connected to femdom and is as much about the power dynamic and humiliation as the sensation.

What is involved: Scenes may use hands, knees, or lightly padded footwear, and can range from teasing taps to heavier work between experienced partners. Many people also use it as a chastity or orgasm denial companion.

Know before you try it: The area is delicate. Go lighter than you think, build slowly, and never strike a hard blow without full agreement. Severe pain, swelling, nausea, or bruising needs urgent medical attention.

Full glossary entry: Ballbusting

13. Balloon Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Sexual interest in balloons, known as looners. Some enjoy popping them, some prefer to watch them be inflated, and some like to sit on, rub against, or play with them.

What is involved: There are two main camps, "poppers" and "non-poppers." Visuals, the squeak and snap of latex, and the anticipation all matter. It overlaps with latex fetish and sensory overload play.

Know before you try it: Latex allergies are real. Use non-latex alternatives if you or your partner react to it, and keep balloon fragments away from pets and children.

Full glossary entry: Balloon Fetish

14. BDSM

Category: Power & Control

What it is: The umbrella term for a wide range of practices: Bondage and Discipline (BD), Dominance and Submission (DS), and Sadism and Masochism (SM). It covers everything from silk scarves and playful orders to elaborate, rule-based lifestyles.

What is involved: Most people dip into only a few parts of it. Some enjoy bondage and nothing else, while others care mostly about the dom/sub dynamic. The community leans heavily on consent frameworks such as SSC and RACK, on scene negotiation beforehand, and on aftercare afterward. A good first read is the sadomasochism glossary entry.

Why people like it: It gives people a structured, agreed way to explore power, trust, and intense sensation. Many describe it as a release from daily pressure, a deeper kind of intimacy with a partner, or simply a lot of fun. Because everything is negotiated, it can actually feel safer than ordinary sex where nobody has said what they want.

Know before you try it: BDSM is built on consent and communication. It is not abuse, and anyone who uses the label to excuse harm is not practicing BDSM.

Related glossary entry: Sadomasochism

15. Bimbofication

Category: Tropes & Fantasy Themes

What it is: A fantasy and aesthetic of becoming the ultra-glam "bimbo": bleached hair, big lashes, pink everything, giggly and carefree, with the brain turned down to cheerful. It is playful, campy, and for many people empowering rather than degrading.

What is involved: Some people use make-up, clothes, and voice to live the persona for a night. Others lean into a hypnosis kink or "mind-melting" fantasy where the character gets simpler and sweeter by the minute. In erotic fiction it is often a transformation story.

Know before you try it: It is dress-up and a role, not a statement on anyone's intelligence. Agree on how and when you both step out of character.

Full glossary entry: Bimbofication

16. Blindfold Play

Category: Mind & Senses

What it is: Covering the eyes during intimacy so touch, sound, and anticipation take over. It is one of the most accessible kinks and a great first step into sensory deprivation.

What is involved: A soft eye mask or scarf is enough. The person who cannot see has to trust the person who can, and every touch becomes a surprise. It pairs well with sensation play, feather teasing, and temperature play.

Why people like it: Taking away sight sharpens everything else and hands control to the partner who can still see. It is a low-pressure, low-risk way to get a first taste of power exchange.

Know before you try it: Agree beforehand on a stop signal that works without sight, such as a safeword or a squeeze of the hand.

Full glossary entry: Blindfold Play

17. Blood Play

Category: Edge Play

What it is: Sexual or ritual interest in blood, from a drop to the more extreme end of cutting. It often links to vampire fantasy, knife play, and needle play.

What is involved: It is edge play, which means it carries real medical risk. Most people who enjoy it do so in tiny, controlled amounts, with sterile single-use equipment, gloves, and proper clean-up. Pure fantasy and roleplay without breaking skin is a common compromise.

Know before you try it: Blood carries infection risk, including hepatitis and HIV. Never share equipment, always use new sterile tools, and get hands-on training from an experienced practitioner before trying anything that breaks skin.

18. Bodypaint Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Arousal from having a body painted, or from painting someone else. The body becomes a canvas, and the cool, slick feel of paint adds sensation.

What is involved: Shared sessions with brushes or fingers, paint-only outfits, and "body-as-art" photography are all common. It sits close to body writing, where the words matter more than the color.

Know before you try it: Only use paint made for skin, never craft or house paint. Cover furniture, avoid sensitive areas, and have a way to wash it off thoroughly afterward.

Full glossary entry: Bodypaint Fetish

19. Bodystocking Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Attraction to the full-body stocking, a sheer or fishnet suit that covers most of the body. Its appeal is the near-visible skin, the stretch, and the framing of curves.

What is involved: People enjoy wearing them, seeing a partner in them, or both. They are often paired with heels, gloves, or lingerie. They share a lot of DNA with fishnet fetish and bodysuit fetish.

Know before you try it: Sheer fabrics snag easily. Keep nails and jewelry in mind when dressing or being undressed.

20. Bodysuit Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: A fascination with one-piece garments that hug the body, in lace, latex, spandex, or cotton. The seamless line and the sense of being contained are the main draws.

What is involved: Wearing, watching, and slowly peeling one off are all popular. It overlaps with latex fetish, zentai, and general lingerie fetish.

Know before you try it: Check fit and stretch, as very tight pieces can restrict breathing or circulation if you overdo it.

Full glossary entry: Bodysuit Fetish

21. Body Worship

Category: Power & Control

What it is: Devoted, slow attention to a partner's body, often with the "worshipper" kneeling and the "worshipped" receiving. It can be gentle and loving or sit inside a dominant and submissive frame.

What is involved: Kissing, massage, adoring words, and sometimes ritual: a bath beforehand, candles, a fixed order of touch. It is a cousin of foot worship and service submission.

Know before you try it: The receiver should be fully comfortable in being admired. Make it clear that they can say stop or redirect whenever they like.

22. Body Writing

Category: Display & Watching

What it is: Writing words on skin, in lipstick, marker, or body-safe paint, as part of a scene. The words are often labels, insults, or devotional phrases that give the scene meaning.

What is involved: Common choices are "property of" tags, ranking marks, or compliments. It overlaps with degradation kink, objectification play, and bodypaint fetish. Photos afterward are part of the fun for some couples.

Know before you try it: Use skin-safe, washable markers only, and test a small patch first for irritation.

Full glossary entry: Body Writing

23. Bondage

Category: Bondage & Restraint

What it is: Restricting movement with rope, cuffs, tape, or other restraints, for pleasure. It is the poster child of kink, and the doorway for many people into wider BDSM.

What is involved: The "tied" person usually feels helpless, safe, and heightened, while the "tying" person controls pace and touch. Styles include simple wrist cuffs, full rope harnesses (rope bondage, shibari), and complicated positions like predicament bondage. Start with soft cuffs or a silk scarf and keep safety scissors nearby.

Why people like it: Being tied up removes the need to make decisions or perform. For the person in rope, that can feel like a rare chance to relax completely. For the person doing the tying, it is a chance to take care of someone and to be in control of the pace.

Know before you try it: Never leave a bound person alone. Check hands and feet for color, numbness, and tingling, and avoid anything around the neck.

Full glossary entry: Bondage

24. Boot Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: A thing for boots, particularly tall leather or patent ones. The shine, the sound, and the stance they create are central.

What is involved: Wearing, polishing, being stepped on by, or simply watching boots are all part of the world. It pairs naturally with leather fetish, femdom, and foot worship.

Know before you try it: If boots are going near skin, keep them clean and agree on how much pressure is fun.

25. Boss and Employee Roleplay

Category: Roleplay & Fantasy

What it is: A workplace power fantasy between adults: the demanding boss and the nervous subordinate, a late meeting, a desk, and a growing tension. It is one of the most popular roleplay setups because it is easy to stage and easy to understand.

What is involved: Suits, ties, pencil skirts, and glasses set the mood. Dialogue is about deadlines, rules, and "consequences." See boss/employee roleplay and the related secretary fetish fantasy.

Know before you try it: It is fantasy only. Keep it far away from real workplaces, and be clear that real-life power imbalances at work are never a basis for consent.

26. Bra Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Attraction to bras: the fabric, the cup shape, the straps, the clasp. For some it is the garment itself; for others it is the way it presents the body.

What is involved: Wearing, receiving, or removing bras can be the whole point. Color and style (lace, satin, sports) all matter. Learn more about the wider lingerie fetish world.

Know before you try it: A bra that fits properly feels better and looks better. Fit matters.

27. Brat

Category: Power & Control

What it is: A submissive who plays at being defiant on purpose, in the hope of being put in their place. Back-talk, teasing, and rule-breaking are the toolkit, and the payoff is a firm, fun response from a dominant.

What is involved: The dominant, called a brat tamer, answers with discipline, rules, or playful punishment such as spanking or orgasm denial. Both partners must agree on where the line is between cheeky and actually upset.

Why people like it: The fun is in the push and pull. Brats enjoy testing limits in a safe way, and tamers enjoy showing they can handle it.

Know before you try it: A brat is not an unhappy or disrespectful person. It is a game, and everyone should be clear on when to stop and on how to tell playful from real.

Full glossary entry: Brat

28. Brat Tamer

Category: Power & Control

What it is: The dominant partner who enjoys the challenge of a brat. They revel in the cheek and know how to respond with steady, unbothered authority.

What is involved: Patience, creativity, and a sense of humor. A good tamer sets clear rules and consequences ahead of time, then plays them out with confidence.

Know before you try it: Calmness matters more than volume. Do not respond to a game with real anger.

Full glossary entry: Brat Tamer

29. Breath Play

Category: Edge Play

What it is: Restricting airflow for intensity, from a hand over the mouth to hands around the neck. It is among the riskiest practices in kink.

What is involved: People are drawn to the rush of lightheadedness and the extreme trust it requires. There is no guaranteed safe version of choking or strangling, and serious injury or death can occur quickly, sometimes without warning. Many kink educators recommend replacing it with safer ideas such as a firm hand on the chest, a collar, or verbal commands.

Why people like it: People describe a dizzy, floaty rush and an almost unmatched sense of surrender. That intensity is exactly why it is so dangerous, and why many educators point people toward safer ways to get a similar feeling.

Know before you try it: Please read the full glossary entry on breath play before considering it. Never use ropes, belts, or bags, never do it alone, and stop at the first sign of trouble.

Full glossary entry: Breath Play

30. Breeding Kink

Category: Tropes & Fantasy Themes

What it is: Arousal from the idea of impregnation, being impregnated, or the language around it, whether or not pregnancy is actually possible or wanted. It is often a fantasy and a vocabulary, not an actual plan.

What is involved: Dirty talk about "filling," "claiming," or "making a baby" is central. Some couples roleplay it; for others it is the idea of being wanted that deeply. Explore the term at breeding kink.

Why people like it: The language of claiming and being claimed is powerful. The fantasy is rarely about babies and almost always about being wanted completely.

Know before you try it: Use real contraception unless you are actually trying for a baby. Fantasy and reality should be kept firmly separate.

Full glossary entry: Breeding Kink

31. Bunny Ears Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Attraction to the bunny ears headband, as part of the iconic bunny costume or on its own. It has a lot to do with the playful, teasing, "look but don't touch" energy of the outfit.

What is involved: The ears can be a single accessory, part of a Playboy-style outfit, or the first step of bunny play. It overlaps with cosplay fetish.

Know before you try it: Costume pieces are meant to be fun. Check comfort and fit, especially if worn for long periods.

Full glossary entry: Bunny Ears Fetish

32. Bunny Play

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: A playful form of pet play where one person acts as a bunny: soft, shy, fast-moving, and often a little bit wicked. It leans towards cute and cuddly rather than rough.

What is involved: Ears, a cotton tail, hopping, nuzzling, and "carrot" treats. Some people tie it into bunny ears fetish and bunny-girl costumes. It is a gentler cousin of pet play, puppy play, and kitten play.

Know before you try it: Check any tail accessories are body-safe and have a flared base.

33. Candaulism

Category: Display & Watching

What it is: Getting turned on by showing off your partner, or by sharing images or the sight of them with others. The name comes from the ancient story of King Candaules, who was said to display his wife's beauty to a friend.

What is involved: It can be as mild as pride in a partner who turns heads, or as active as sharing photos, or having a partner flirt or undress in front of a trusted audience. It overlaps with exhibitionism, voyeurism, and hotwifing.

Know before you try it: Consent from the person being shown off is the whole game. Agree on what gets shared, with whom, and what happens to any images afterward.

Full glossary entry: Candaulism

34. Cane Play

Category: Pain & Sensation

What it is: Using a thin rattan cane for impact, producing a sharp, stinging sensation that is very different from a thuddy paddle or a wide flogger.

What is involved: Caning leaves distinct lines and can be a stronger hit than most beginners expect, so it is usually an experienced-players tool. It is often used in discipline scenes and strict-authority roleplay between adults. See the wider impact play guide.

Know before you try it: Aim only for the fleshy backside and upper thighs, never the spine, hips, or kidneys. Start extremely light and increase slowly. Marks can last days.

Full glossary entry: Cane Play

35. Captive Roleplay

Category: Roleplay & Fantasy

What it is: A scenario in which one person is "captured" or held by another, such as a hostage, prisoner, or kidnapped character. It is a staged fantasy, not an actual abduction.

What is involved: Rope, handcuffs, blindfolds, and a story do most of the work. People often combine it with interrogation roleplay, bondage, and consensual non-consent. Everything is pre-negotiated, including a way to end the scene.

Know before you try it: A safeword is non-negotiable, as the fantasy often involves saying "no." Agree beforehand that real distress overrides the script.

Full glossary entry: Captive Roleplay

36. Caregiver and Little (CGL)

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: A nurturing dynamic between adults where one is the "caregiver" and the other the "little." It can be completely non-sexual, centered on comfort, routine, and care, or it can be part of an erotic relationship.

What is involved: Caregivers might handle bedtimes, meals, rules, and gentle discipline. Littles might color, cuddle plush toys, or ask permission for things. See the pages on caregiver, little space, and the more specific DDLG and MDLB variants.

Why people like it: It blends nurturing and play into a relationship rhythm. Both partners often feel more connected because the dynamic is built around looking after one another.

Know before you try it: This is an arrangement between adults. Check in regularly about what each of you needs, since emotional needs can run deeper than the play.

Related glossary entry: CGL

37. Chastity Play

Category: Power & Control

What it is: One partner is locked or otherwise restricted from sexual release or touch, with the other holding control. The classic version uses a physical cage, but a rule, a promise, or a belt can serve the same purpose.

What is involved: The holder might keep the key, set the time, and decide when, or whether, release happens. It pairs with orgasm denial, edging, and orgasm control. Teasing messages while locked up are a big part of the fun.

Why people like it: The lock is a constant reminder of a partner's control. That thread of connection between scenes is what many people love most.

Know before you try it: Check skin and circulation every day, keep devices clean, and never rely on a lock without a plan for emergency removal. Long periods require breaks.

Full glossary entry: Chastity Play

38. Choker Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Attraction to close-fitting necklaces worn at the throat. A choker can be a symbol of ownership, a pretty accessory, or a quiet precursor to a collar.

What is involved: Velvet, leather, chain, and lace chokers all have fans. They carry a lot of symbolism for submission and belonging, and are easy to wear in public without raising an eyebrow.

Know before you try it: A choker should never be tight enough to restrict breathing. If it is pulled on, treat that as breath play and take the safety advice seriously.

39. Clothespin and Clamp Play

Category: Pain & Sensation

What it is: Using clothespins, clamps, or similar devices on skin, usually the nipples, to create a pinching sensation that builds over time. See the broader nipple play guide.

What is involved: Clamps are often attached with a chain, weighted, or tugged. The real kick for many people comes when the clamp is removed, as blood rushes back in and the sensation spikes.

Know before you try it: Limit wear time to around 15 minutes at first, and never use anything that cannot be removed quickly. Numbness, color change, or sharp pain means take them off.

Related glossary entry: Nipple Play

40. Cock and Ball Torture (CBT)

Category: Pain & Sensation

What it is: Sensation play focused on the male genitals, ranging from gentle pulling and binding to light slaps and clamps. It is related to ballbusting but often slower and more ritual.

What is involved: Rope, rings, clips, or elastic bands may be used, usually combined with chastity or a dominant partner giving instructions.

Know before you try it: Do not constrict blood flow for long. Pain that does not fade, discoloration, or swelling means stop and seek medical help.

Related glossary entry: Ballbusting

41. Collar Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Fascination with collars, a symbol that can mean commitment, ownership, or submission. Some people wear one as a daily token; others only in scenes.

What is involved: Styles range from simple leather bands to decorative day collars disguised as jewelry. A formal collaring ceremony is the dominant partner's way of saying "mine," and it carries real emotional weight. Many couples pair it with a lead for collar and leash play or enjoy a collared dynamic all year round.

Know before you try it: Treat collars with the respect they carry. Never put one on someone without their clear, enthusiastic say-so.

Category: Roleplay & Fantasy

What it is: A negotiated agreement in which one person gives advance permission for things that will later look like resistance, so the scene feels like force while staying fully consensual. The "no" within the scene is part of the script.

What is involved: CNC is one of the most intense forms of roleplay, and the preparation matters more than the scene itself: detailed lists of what is allowed, what is not, and what the safeword is. Many people find it helps them explore fantasies of being overwhelmed or taken in a way that feels safe. See consensual non-consent and consent culture.

Why people like it: It allows people to explore powerful fantasies, including being overpowered, without real danger. Some say the careful negotiation involved makes them feel more secure than ordinary sex ever did.

Know before you try it: Only try CNC with someone you deeply trust and have spoken to at length. A safeword that overrides everything is essential, as is time for aftercare. Not a good fit for a first date or for anyone with unprocessed trauma.

Full glossary entry: Consensual Non-Consent

43. Corset Fetish

Category: Clothing & Materials Fetish

What it is: Attraction to corsets and tight lacing, drawn by the shape, the structure, and the sense of being held in. Some enjoy the historic look, others the rigid, restrictive feel.

What is involved: Corsets can be worn as outerwear, under clothes, or as part of a lingerie set. The slow process of lacing up or being laced is a ritual in itself. Overlaps with bondage for those who like restriction.

Know before you try it: Do not lace so tightly that you cannot breathe or move. A good corset supports; it should not squeeze.

Full glossary entry: Corset Fetish

44. Cosplay Fetish

Category: Roleplay & Fantasy

What it is: Arousal from costumes and character dress-up, whether it is a superhero, an anime character, a fantasy warrior, or a classic like a nurse or pirate. The costume is the doorway to the fantasy.

What is involved: Some people want to dress as the character; others want a partner to. Photoshoots, conventions, and private roleplay all count. Take a look at the page on cosplay fetish for more.

Know before you try it: Be respectful of convention rules and public spaces. Private play is private.

Full glossary entry: Cosplay Fetish

45. Cross-Dressing

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: Wearing clothes traditionally associated with a different gender, sometimes for pleasure or erotic excitement, sometimes for comfort or identity reasons. It is not always sexual, and not always the same thing as being trans.

What is involved: Lingerie, make-up, and wigs are common. For some it connects to sissy kink and feminization play; for others it is simply how they feel most like themselves.

Know before you try it: Be thoughtful about assuming someone's motive. Ask, and take their answer at face value.

Related glossary entry: Sissy Kink

46. Cuckolding

Category: Relationship Structures

What it is: A scenario where one partner is aroused by the other having sex with someone else, often with a mix of humiliation, jealousy, and devotion. The partner watching or hearing about it is the "cuckold."

What is involved: Variations include being present, watching, hearing about it after, or never knowing the details. Hotwifing is the version where the wife's enjoyment is celebrated rather than the husband's humiliation, and compersion is the joy someone feels at their partner's pleasure. Learn more at cuckolding.

Why people like it: The mix of jealousy, vulnerability, and arousal is intense. Some people say that being fully honest about desire, and trusting a partner with it, strengthens the relationship.

Know before you try it: This is a consensual arrangement with ground rules, safer-sex agreements, and constant communication. It is not the same as cheating, which involves lying.

Full glossary entry: Cuckolding

47. Cuckqueaning

Category: Relationship Structures

What it is: The reverse of cuckolding: a woman who is aroused by her partner being intimate with someone else. The same mix of jealousy, compersion, and excitement applies.

What is involved: Ground rules are the same as for any consensual non-monogamy, and the story usually includes lots of reassurance. Some women prefer to watch; others prefer to hear the story afterward.

Know before you try it: Jealousy can be a real emotion. Be ready to pause the game if it stops feeling good.

Related glossary entry: Cuckolding

48. Curvy Admiration

Category: Body Part Fetish

What it is: Attraction to fuller figures, from soft and curvy to BBW (big beautiful woman) and SSBBW. Fans love softness, size, and the way a body fills out clothing.

What is involved: Appreciation takes many forms, including body worship, photography, and sensual massage. It can overlap with feederism for some, but it is a much broader preference.

Know before you try it: Be respectful. Admiration is welcome; fetishizing someone without caring who they are is not.

49. Dacryphilia

Category: Mind & Senses

What it is: Being turned on by tears. This might be crying from emotion, laughter, or from intense sensation, and some find the vulnerability of a tear-stained face deeply arousing.

What is involved: It overlaps with sensation play, humiliation play, and emotional intensity in scenes. Some people enjoy bringing a partner to tears through a story; others prefer the aftermath of cathartic crying.

Know before you try it: Tears can be genuine distress. Check in often, and give plenty of aftercare.

50. Daddy Dynamic

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: A relationship where one adult takes on a protective, authoritative "Daddy" role, often towards a partner called "baby girl," "good boy," or similar. It is about guidance, praise, and rules between adults, not about literal age.

What is involved: Daddy dynamics might be a bedroom-only game or a 24/7 relationship. Common elements include praise, rules, curfews, and playful discipline. See DDLG for the "little" version and daddy dynamic for the dominant role.

Why people like it: A "Daddy" is a protective, steady, guiding figure. The appeal is usually the mix of safety and authority, not an actual family role.

Know before you try it: Both people are adults, and the roleplay should be negotiated openly. Not everyone who likes the pet name wants the full dynamic.

Full glossary entry: Daddy Dynamic

51. DDLG

Category: Pets, Ages & Identity

What it is: Daddy Dom / Little Girl, a dynamic where a dominant "Daddy" cares for and controls a playful "little girl." It is the best-known type of age play.

What is involved: Pastel colors, stuffed toys, bedtime stories, and clear rules are common props. The sexual element is optional and varies from couple to couple. It can run as a game, or as a whole way of relating. See also CGL for the gender-neutral version.

Why people like it: The dynamic offers structure, affection, and rules in a gentle form. Many couples say it helps them feel safe, cared for, and playful.

Know before you try it: Adults only, and clear communication throughout. Always keep it away from any real children or spaces they use.

Full glossary entry: DDLG

52. Degradation Kink

Category: Power & Control

What it is: Arousal from being demeaned, insulted, or treated as less than, within a safe agreement. It is closely linked to humiliation play but focuses more on how you are spoken to and treated than on being embarrassed.

What is involved: Name-calling, being told to do degrading things, or being "used." The partner dishing it out needs to know which words are welcome and which are never okay. The opposite side of this coin is praise kink.

Why people like it: For many, the appeal is the contrast between how they are treated in a scene and how they are valued in real life. Hearing harsh words from someone who clearly cares can feel strangely safe and freeing.

Know before you try it: Agree on a "never say" list first. What feels hot in one scene can cut deep in another. Aftercare often matters most here.

Full glossary entry: Degradation Kink

53. Dirty Talk

Category: Language & Sound

What it is: Saying (or hearing) suggestive or explicit things during intimacy. It ranges from soft whispers to raunchy commands, and is one of the easiest ways to bring a new level of heat to a relationship.

What is involved: Start with describing what you are doing or want to do. Then add praise, instructions, or fantasy. If it feels silly, you are probably doing it right. Pair with auralism to understand why some people find voice so powerful.

Why people like it: Words can build tension faster than touch. For many people, hearing a partner say what they want is more arousing than anything physical.

Know before you try it: Agree on words that are off the table, especially past partners, body-shaming, and anything that reminds them of something painful.

54. Doctor and Patient Roleplay

Category: Roleplay & Fantasy

What it is: A fantasy in which one person plays a medical professional and the other a patient, with exams, treatments, and bedside manner turned playful. It is a staple of medical play and uniform fetish.

What is involved: Stethoscopes, gloves, lab coats, and a clinical tone make the scene. Some couples keep it entirely roleplay; others add real props such as speculums, which require serious care. See doctor/patient roleplay.

Know before you try it: Never use real medical equipment unless trained in its use, and never use sterilized items for anything other than their intended purpose.

Related glossary entry: Doctor Patient Roleplay

55. Dollification

Category: Tropes & Fantasy Themes

What it is: A fantasy in which a person is turned into a doll: posed, dressed, made up, and treated as an object that does not speak or act on its own. It is a kind of objectification play with a glamorous, plastic edge.

What is involved: Wigs, heavy make-up, latex or satin outfits, stillness, and being moved around by a "doll maker." Some people go further with masks or full-body suits. Stillness can be tiring, so plan for breaks.

Know before you try it: Agree on a nonverbal signal because "doll" players often do not speak. Hydration and rest matter.

Related glossary entry: Objectification Play

56. Domestic Discipline

Category: Power & Control

What it is: A relationship style where one partner sets household rules and enforces them with agreed consequences, often corporal punishment or chores. It is a form of dom/sub dynamic woven into daily life.

What is involved: Rules, written agreements, and sometimes a "punishment" after rule-breaking. Many couples have a clear chart, a signal word, and a debrief. It is very different from abuse because everything is agreed in advance and either person can stop it.

Know before you try it: Be wary of anyone who says you "must" follow a dynamic. A healthy version is chosen, discussed regularly, and always revocable.

57. Dom/Sub Dynamic

Category: Power & Control

What it is: The central structure of BDSM power exchange. One person (the dominant, or "dom") takes the lead, while the other (the submissive, or "sub") follows. Both agree to the arrangement, and the submissive holds the real power through consent.

What is involved: Dynamics range from a single scene to full-time lifestyle arrangements. Elements include rules, rituals, protocol, and agreed hard and soft limits. Read dom/sub dynamic for the full guide, and total power exchange for the extreme end. A switch enjoys both roles.

Why people like it: Dominants often enjoy the focus, the responsibility, and the confidence that comes from leading. Submissives often enjoy the freedom of handing over control and the safety of being guided. Both usually say that the trust involved brings them closer.

Know before you try it: Submission is a gift, not a weakness. Dominance is a responsibility, not a license.

58. Edge Play

Category: Edge Play

What it is: Practices that carry higher physical or emotional risk than average kink, such as breath play, knife play, or blood play. The word "edge" means the line where things can go badly wrong.

What is involved: The kink community leans on frameworks like RACK, risk-aware consensual kink, over the older SSC (safe, sane, consensual) for exactly this reason, because it acknowledges that some risks cannot be removed, only understood.

Know before you try it: Edge play requires skill, training, a trusted partner, and an emergency plan. If any of those are missing, wait.

59. Edging

Category: Mind & Senses

What it is: Bringing someone close to orgasm and then stopping, again and again, before allowing release. Done well, it builds sensitivity and intensity beyond what most people feel in a normal climax.

What is involved: Solo or partnered, it can be used as a teasing game, as part of orgasm control, or as a form of orgasm denial. Communication is key: the person being edged signals when they are close. Read our guide, What Is Edging?.

Why people like it: Many people report that repeated build-ups produce a stronger, longer climax. Others simply enjoy the extended time in a heightened state.

Know before you try it: Too much edging with no payoff can leave some people uncomfortable. Plan for release at the end.

Full glossary entry: Edging

60. Electro Play

Category: Pain & Sensation

What it is: Using low-level electrical stimulation on the body for tingling, buzzing, or sharper sensations. Tools range from violet wands to purpose-built e-stim units.

What is involved: The sensation can feel like pins and needles, a tickle, or a snap. Many practitioners treat it as a distinct skill because the equipment varies so much. Pairs with sensation play and bondage.

Know before you try it: Only use equipment designed for erotic use. Never run current across the chest or head, never use anything plugged into mains power, and keep it away from water. Anyone with a heart condition or pacemaker should avoid it.

Full glossary entry: Electro Play

61. Enemies to Lovers

Category: Tropes & Fantasy Themes

What it is: A romance and erotica trope in which two characters begin as rivals or adversaries and slowly (or suddenly) become lovers. The tension is built on friction, banter, and unresolved attraction.

What is involved: In real play, couples recreate the tension through bickering, competition, and a scene in which the rivalry breaks into passion. It overlaps with brat and brat tamer energy.

Know before you try it: Keep the quarrel playful. Real arguments are not foreplay.

62. Ethical Non-Monogamy

Category: Relationship Structures

What it is: An umbrella term for relationships that involve more than two people and where everyone is informed and agrees. It includes polyamory, open relationships, and swinging.

What is involved: Honest talk, defined agreements, and regular check-ins. See ethical non-monogamy and relationship anarchy.

Know before you try it: The word "ethical" is doing real work. Without honesty, it's just cheating.

Full glossary entry: Ethical Non-Monogamy

63. Exhibitionism

Category: Display & Watching

What it is: Arousal from being seen, whether by a partner, an audience, or through photos and videos. The thrill is the gaze. Read more in our article, Exhibitionism Explained.

What is involved: Examples include dressing provocatively, posing for cameras, or intimate play with a partner watching. It is the mirror of voyeurism. See exhibitionism.

Why people like it: Being watched can feel validating, daring, and thrilling. For some, it is about being appreciated; for others, it is about the risk and the adrenaline.

Know before you try it: Consent applies to the audience, too. Exposing yourself to people who did not choose to see is a crime.

Category: Power & Control

What it is: One person sits on, or hovers over, another person's face. It is a mixture of intimacy, oral pleasure, dominance, and sometimes light suffocation play.

What is involved: Positions range from a gentle straddle to a "smother." Often described as queening when a woman is the one on top. See facesitting and femdom.

Know before you try it: Never block both nose and mouth, as it quickly turns into breath play. Agree on a tap-out signal and honor it instantly.

Full glossary entry: Facesitting

65. Face Slapping

Category: Pain & Sensation

What it is: Light to moderate slaps across the cheek, delivered within an agreed scene. It is more about the shock, the symbolism, and the power than about pain.

What is involved: Usually open-handed, aimed at the fleshy cheek and well away from the nose, ears, and eyes. Often used in degradation kink and femdom scenes, and always discussed beforehand. See face slapping.

Know before you try it: Face and head injuries are a real risk. Keep it light, never aim near the ear, and avoid it entirely if either of you has had head or jaw trouble.

Full glossary entry: Face Slapping

66. Fart Fetish

Category: Food, Mess & Fluids

What it is: Arousal from flatulence, in sound, smell, or the humiliation and intimacy of it. It is often linked to humiliation play and facesitting.

What is involved: Fans might enjoy hearing it, being near it, or having a partner do it on purpose in a scene. Many fans of this fetish value humor as much as heat. Read the fart fetish entry.

What is involved: A blindfolded partner and a soft feather create delicious uncertainty. It pairs with tickling and edging. See feather fetish.

Related glossary entry: Feather Fetish

68. Feederism

Category: Food, Mess & Fluids

What it is: A fetish centered on feeding and weight gain, either as the "feeder" providing the food or the "feedee" being fed. Some focus on the erotic act of feeding, others on the changing body.

What is involved: It ranges from fun, sensual feeding games to dedicated weight gain goals between consenting adults. It overlaps with sploshing and body worship. See feederism.

Know before you try it: Significant weight gain has health consequences. Agree on health checks, set limits, and never pressure anyone to eat more than they want.

Full glossary entry: Feederism

69. Female-Led Relationship (FLR)

Category: Relationship Structures

What it is: A relationship in which the woman has the final say on key decisions, either in the bedroom or in everyday life. It is the female-led counterpart of a male-led relationship.

What is involved: Some couples keep it playful; others put it in writing, with rules, tasks, and rewards. It overlaps with femdom but isn't always sexual. Read female-led relationship for more.

Know before you try it: A healthy FLR is chosen and enjoyed by both. If one person stops enjoying it, it should end or change.

Full glossary entry: Female-Led Relationship

70. Femdom

Category: Power & Control

What it is: Short for female domination, where a woman holds the dominant role, usually over a male submissive but also over women and non-binary partners. It can be erotic, emotional, or a full lifestyle.

What is involved: Common elements include orders, orgasm control, humiliation, worship, and chastity. Professionals called dominatrices also run femdom sessions. Look at the femdom glossary page.

Why people like it: Some submissives enjoy being led by a confident woman. Some women enjoy the freedom to be openly powerful and demanding, which they rarely get elsewhere in life.

What is involved: The sting builds and fades over several minutes. It is typically combined with spanking or chastity. Learn more at figging.

Know before you try it: Only use food-grade ginger, shaped with a flared base so it can be removed, and never leave it in for long. Stop if the burn gets too intense.

72. Financial Domination

Category: Power & Control

What it is: A power dynamic in which the submissive pays, gifts, or relinquishes control of money to a dominant. The financial aspect is the erotic part.

What is involved: Forms include one-time "tributes," ongoing allowances, or being denied access to savings. It is common online, and is also a sensitive area, since real money is involved. See financial domination.

Why people like it: The thrill is the surrender of something real and the symbolism of devotion. For some it becomes a way to feel the power exchange in everyday life.

Category: Body Part Fetish

What it is: Arousal from feet, including their look, smell, and touch. It is one of the most common fetishes in the world and is sometimes referred to as podophilia.

What is involved: Fans might enjoy massage, kissing, toe-sucking, being stepped on, or just looking. It overlaps with heel fetish, sock fetish, and foot worship. Read our full guide to Foot Fetish 101 or the foot fetish glossary entry.

Why people like it: Feet are sensitive, usually covered, and tied to both intimacy and vulnerability. Researchers have suggested the brain area linked to feet sits next to the area linked to genitals, though the science is far from settled.

Know before you try it: Hygiene matters. Fresh, clean feet are the standard for most people.

103. Impact Play

Different tools have different feels: thuddy (paddles), stingy (canes, crops), or wide and sweeping (floggers). Spanking is where most people start. Read impact play for the full guide.

Why people like it: The brain responds to controlled impact with endorphins and adrenaline. After the initial sting, many feel warm, floaty, and deeply relaxed.

What is involved: Scenes might involve sneaking around, hotel rooms, or being caught. It is related to cuckolding and hotwifing, but those involve agreement, whereas the fantasy is usually just a story. Erotic fiction uses it constantly.

Where to go from here

You have now seen a lot of what is out there. Most people only like a handful of these, and that is exactly how it should be. Here is how to make good use of what you have read.

Work out what you like. Go back through the list and note the entries that made you curious, the ones that made you nervous, and the ones that made you feel nothing. The first two groups are worth a closer look. Our kink quiz can help turn those reactions into a clearer picture.

Start a conversation. If you have a partner, do not hand them a list and say "pick." Share one or two things that interest you, say why, and ask what they are curious about. Frame it as something you would like to explore together, with no pressure and no need for an answer right away. Our scene negotiation and limits guides give you a ready-made structure.

Read deeper. The glossary has hundreds of terms, and our blog goes into the popular ones in detail, including exhibitionism, foot fetish, rope bondage, edging, spanking, latex, and praise kink.

See it for yourself. Many of the looks and styles in this guide, from lingerie and stockings to heels and leather, show up in the photo sets on this site. Browse the photo galleries or meet the creators behind them.

Quick answers

How many kinks are there?

Nobody has an exact count, because the list keeps growing as people invent new variations. This guide covers 235 of the most common and best-known ones, and the glossary goes further.

Is having a kink normal?

Yes. Interest in kink is far more common than most people assume, and plenty of people keep it to themselves because they think they are alone. What matters is not what you like but how you act on it: with consent, honesty, and care.

What is the difference between a kink and a fetish?

A kink is something that adds to sex. A fetish is a stronger attachment to a specific object, material, or body part. One simple test: if you cannot enjoy sex without it, it is closer to a fetish. If you enjoy it but do not need it, it is closer to a kink.

Where should a beginner start?

Pick something low-risk and easy to stop, such as a blindfold, roleplay, or light spanking. Talk first, agree on a safeword, and plan some aftercare.

Can I try these on my own?

Many can be explored solo, such as sensation play, hypnosis audio, or fantasy. Anything involving restraint, breath, blood, or heat should not be done alone.

This guide is for general information for adults and is not medical, legal, or psychological advice. If a kink is causing you distress, or you are unsure about your health, talk to a doctor or a kink-aware therapist.
