Sensory deprivation is a practice where one or more senses are deliberately reduced or blocked off, typically using blindfolds, earplugs, hoods, or dark, soundproofed spaces, so the person inside has very little external input to work with. It is often used as a tool within BDSM scenes to sharpen whatever sensation or attention remains.
With sight and sound cut down, every touch lands harder and the mind tends to fill the quiet with anticipation, which is exactly what draws people to it. It also flips the usual dynamic: the person deprived of input often feels more vulnerable and dependent on their partner, while the partner takes on more responsibility for what happens next.
Worth knowing: Because the person inside cannot see or hear what is coming and may lose track of time, agree on a clear signal they can still give, check in regularly, and keep the session short enough to avoid disorientation or panic during or after.
