Kink shaming is the act of mocking, criticizing, or expressing disgust toward someone for their sexual interests, fantasies, or kinks, usually in a way meant to make them feel embarrassed or lesser.
It shows up both inside and outside kink spaces: a partner recoiling at a fetish, a friend making a joke at someone's expense, or online communities treating an interest as a punchline. Many people who have experienced it describe the sting as less about the kink itself and more about being judged for a part of themselves they did not choose and often took a long time to accept.
Worth knowing: In kink spaces the standard expectation runs the opposite direction of shaming: consenting adults negotiate openly, honor each other's limits, and treat a partner's interests with respect rather than ridicule.
