A custom AI girlfriend is a chatbot companion built on a platform that lets users define its personality, appearance, backstory, or conversational style rather than picking from a fixed cast of presets. The character exists only as a software model, and interactions happen entirely through text or voice chat.
This term belongs to the synthetic-companion industry, where products like Replika, Character.AI, and various roleplay apps let users shape a bot to their preferences. It is worth knowing the distinction because custom AI girlfriends are software characters with no real person behind them, which is a different category from platforms where actual human creators run their own subscription pages.
